I’ve been around wrestling for as long as I can remember. Like many in the sport, I followed my older brother around to meets and then started wrestling myself. The Mississippi Valley Conference now has a prohibitive advantage in Thursday’s MVC/MAC Volleyball Challenge.
The event consists of four MVC teams, two from the MAC.
Four of the six teams are ranked in Class 4A. Host Cedar Rapids Kennedy is rated second, Iowa City West third, Pleasant Valley ninth and Bettendorf 11th. Cedar Rapids Prairie and Linn-Mar round out the field.

IOWA CITY — He’s a paradox, really.
At 5 foot-5, Frank Canady looks younger than he really is. But he runs older.
“He has always run two or three years ahead of his age,” said Brian Martz, Canady’s cross country coach at Iowa City West.
These days, Canady is running ahead of just about anybody he encounters. Canady is coming off a Class 4A third-place state finish. It would be easy for him to mention a state title as a long-range goal this season.
