SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) – Michael Rapaglia struck out seven over four-plus innings and Vincent Quinn slugged a three-run homer as Staten Island, N.Y., advanced at the Little League World Series with a 8-3 win Monday night over Urbandale, Iowa.
New York will play either California or Texas in the U.S. semifinals Wednesday. Rapaglia limited Iowa hitters until the fourth, when he struggled with his control and loaded the bases. But the 12-year-old got pinch-hitter Robert Vanderlinden to strike out to end the jam.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Those were the days.  It was the mid-1960s, and Kingston Stadium was the place to be.  Especially when Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Cedar Rapids Washington were playing one another.
“I can remember walking out of the tunnel into the stadium,” said longtime Washington coach Wally Sheets, who is now retired. “And there were not very many empty seats.”  That includes the horseshoe on the north end of the stadium. All four are independent, squaring off against the programs they formerly called partners in strong rivalry games.
About a decade has past since the Catbirds suited up, so consolidation doesn’t fuel the fire for the Wildcats and Orioles. Instead, motivation comes from both being …
