Iowa State University and members of the Cyclones wrestling program announced Tuesday that Travis and Trent Paulson are returning to Ames to train during the upcoming season. The duo, who prepped at Council Bluffs Lewis Central before their Cyclone careers, trained at Nebraska last season.
Both are on the U.S. Freestyle team with Trent preparing to wrestle at the World Wrestling Championships in Herning, Denmark, Sept. 21-23. Trent has won the U.S. Senior Nationals and became a hometown hero by winning the 145.5-pound title at the World Team Trials at Council Bluffs in May. Both were three-time All-Americans for ISU. Trent won an NCAA title at 157 pounds in 2007. Travis concluded his college career, placing fifth at 165.
They appear to be the building blocks for the Cyclone Wrestling Club. They’ll help with fundraising and promotion. They have the hope to attract more world-class wrestlers to the club.
