The Iowa City West baseball coach isn’t used to being awake when midnight approaches. That’s about the time his team’s games at the state baseball tournament got finished last week.
“The young kids deal well,” Stumpff said. “I’m the one you need to worry about.”

IOWA CITY - Nick Moore’s college decision may have been expected, but it should still bring excitement to University of Iowa wrestling fans.
Moore, a senior at Iowa City West, orally committed last night to wrestle for Hawkeye Coach Tom Brands.
“I really wanted to be a Hawkeye,” Moore said. “Going in I just kept an open mind about everything just in case everything didn’t go according to plan (but) that really wasn’t the case.”

Iowa City West’s three-time state champion Nick Moore orally committed Sunday night to wrestle for University of Iowa Coach Tom Brands and the Hawkeyes next year. Moore will be a senior for the Trojans and will be a favorite to become West’s first four-time state champion.

He came up one pitch shy of history, but Dean McArdle insisted he didn’t care. He still got a piece of the history he wanted most.
The Sioux City North pitcher threw one of the most dominating games the state baseball tournament has seen in a while, giving up just Ryan Rumpf’s line-drive double with two outs in the seventh inning as North beat Iowa City West, 4-0, for the Class 4A title Saturday night at Principal Park.
