Before transferring into Solon High School this year, Ben Bergman was at Mount Vernon. Perhaps that makes him more qualified than anyone to give some perspective on the great athletics run going on in the Johnson County town.
Bergman has seen things up close and personal AND from a rival’s distance.
“This year, it was incredible winning the state tournament in basketball,” said Bergman, a starting forward. “I think what’s going on speaks to all the athletes and their work ethics. It seems like everybody plays all kinds of sports here.”

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Baird Iowa Open is special to Molly Fiala, and her performances in the local tennis tournament have been equally as good.
Fiala has reached a championship appearance every year she’s played since she was 10 years old, and that streak was extended Sunday.
Fiala teamed with Marshalltown senior and defending Class 2A state champion Krissy Lankelma to win the Women’s Open Doubles title at Veterans Memorial Tennis Center.
Fiala and Lankelma defeated twin sisters Sarah and Leesa Cadwallader, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8).
