FORT DODGE — Iowa City Regina fell for the rise.
Jamie Fisher quieted the Regals’ offense — which had been so potent through the postseason — and fifth-ranked Conrad BCLUW pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat No. 12 Regina, 2-0, in a Class 2A semifinal at the state softball tournament Thursday at the Rogers Sports Complex.
“Her speed wasn’t really a factor,” said Regina’s Katie Feuerbach, who matched Fisher pitch for pitch through the first six innings. “She threw the riseball, and we chased it.”
Fisher, who threw in the mid-60s all game, struck out 12 batters, which matched her season average.
BCLUW (36-4) faces No. 2 Emmetsburg (32-5) for the 2A crown at 7 tonight.
Regina (23-12) takes on Bondurant-Farrar (34-4) in the third-place game at noon. The Regals spent much of their postgame huddle discussing today’s finale.
“We have an opportunity to go home with a win,” said Regina Coach Jon Prottsman. “(Today’s game) will show what kind of character we have.”
Despite the dozen whiffs, the Regals weren’t devoid of opportunities.
Two of their three hits came in the bottom of the first. Kylee Homewood led off with a single to right. Two outs later, Missie Feuerbach singled.
But with runners at second and third, Fisher got Katie Feuerbach swinging.
In the sixth, Homewood led off with a double, then advanced to third on Julia Hunter’s sacrifice bunt.
Two batters later, Missie Feuerbach bunted, but BCLUW third baseman Sara Purcell caught Homewood straying too far off third and threw to shortstop Krista Morris for the out.
Homewood had two of the Regals’ three hits. It was a far cry from their 14-hit attack that flattened No. 1 Okoboji, 11-2, in the first round Monday.
Regina scored 46 runs in its first five postseason games. Thursday, the Regals were the BCLUW’s 27th shutout victim.
“Props to them,” Katie Feuerbach said. “They executed when they had to. Give them credit.”
A walk, a double and a walk loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh. Purcell’s groundout to second base drove in the first run, then Kendra Smith’s bunt single plated the second.
Katie Feuerbach tossed a four-hitter with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

That is a foolish statement, it is becuase of her speed that you are prone to chase the up pitch. Jamie struck out 12 of the 21 outs. And you don’t think it was her speed or pitching. I have seen this girl pitch, she is the real deal and seems to get little credit at the state level.
