And a wonderful, terrific day to be Sara Kron.
Kron capped a six-run explosion in the top of the fifth inning with a grand slam to center field, and No. 12 Iowa City Regina squashed top-rated Okoboji, 11-2, in a Class 2A quarterfinal Monday at the Rogers Sports Complex.

Just call late July “Xavier Time.”
It’s been four straight state baseball tournament appearances for Cedar Rapids Xavier, including a title in 2006 and second-place finishes in 2005 and 2007. A team that struggled during the 2008 regular season got hot in the postseason and made state despite a 16-22 record.
“It’s what we expect,” said Xavier Coach Dave Schemmel. “I think the kids know that we need to be playing our best baseball at the end of the season.”
