Jared Frayer is leaving the University of Iowa wrestling program to become an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin and coach Barry Davis. Frayer was the strength and conditioning coach for the Hawkeyes for the 2008-09 season.
A source close to the program said Frayer met with the team Thursday to tell them of his decision, calling the move amicable and understandable one for Frayer’s career. Frayer is replacing Donny Pritzlaff, who became Davis’ top assistant after former Hawkeye Bart Chelesvig resigned in May. Chelesvig resigned after 16 years, saying …

Austin Blythe captured the attention of University of Iowa football and wrestling fans when news circulated that he was offered a football scholarship to play for the Hawkeyes.
Hawkeye wrestling fans became concerned that a tremendous wrestling prospect, residing within a lateral drop distance to Iowa City, might be plucked away by a different sport. Football fans had a recruit still raw talent-wise, but has the physical attributes to be an asset to Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz.

Last week, the big softball tournament was at Jesup.
This weekend, it’s at Manchester.
Sixteen teams will compete in the West Delaware Invitational, led by Class 3A powers Dubuque Hempstead, Williamsburg and West Delaware.
Play begins at 9 a.m. Friday. The championship game is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Every team plays four games.
