Top-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy advanced to the championship game for the fourth straight season, handling No. 4 Ankeny, 2-0, in a Class 2A semifinal at the girls’ state soccer tournament last night at the Muscatine Soccer Complex.
The last three trips to the final have ended the same way — 1-0 losses to West Des Moines Valley.
“We’ve never really pulled it off,” said Kennedy’s Jade Grimm. “Hopefully, this is the year we can get it done.”

MFL MarMac has been one of the top Class 2A programs in northeast Iowa for many seasons, cranking out competitive teams and state medalists the last few years.
MFL Coach Chet Bachman has had at least two state medalists every year since the 2005 state tournament and at least one on the awards stand since 2004.
The Bulldogs are getting a little boost by sharing their room with quality wrestlers who comprised the Elkader Central roster the last couple of years. MFL and Elkader Central have agreed to a co-op agreement that …
