DES MOINES — Cedar Rapids Xavier’s 10-7 record doesn’t generate much respect in Class 2A boys’ soccer circles. But the Saints’ pattern of success hardly qualifies them as an underdog.
Xavier qualified for state seven consecutive years (2001-07). The Saints won the state title three times and finished second once. But it was the 2007 and 2008 performances that have the team focused this year, not their championship trophies.

One early goal was all the Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls’ soccer team needed to advance to the regional final.
That goal, scored less than seven minutes into a regional semifinal against Linn-Mar, provided the winning margin in a physical 1-0 victory Wednesday at Lower Kingston Stadium.

CEDAR RAPIDS — One in singles. Two doubles teams. A berth in the state team tournament for the seventh time this decade.
Yeah, it’s a typical spring for the Cedar Rapids Kennedy girls’ tennis team.
Typically brilliant.
Kennedy is more than well-stocked for the Class 2A state tournament, which begins with first- and second-round individual play Thursday at the University of Iowa Tennis Center in Iowa City. Semifinals and finals are Friday, with team play Saturday.

Rockford’s bats have connected quite well in the first three games of the 2009 softball campaign.
The Warrior girls continued the strong start to the season at the plate with a number of key hits as Rockford downed Mason City Newman 4-3 Tuesday in nonconference play.
"We’ve come up with some timely hitting from a lot of different people," said Rockford coach Rudy Evertsen.
Rockford’s timely hit came via Heather Dolan’s bat in the fourth. Dolan’s double scored two runs, giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead.
