It’s soccer showdown week.
The Warriors and the Cougars meet in a pair of high-stakes soccer matches — the boys play Tuesday, the girls meet Thursday. Both matches are 6 p.m. at Jones Park.
“The kids are looking forward to playing them,” said Washington boys’ coach J.P. Graham. “It’s a pretty big game. We’ve had the better end of it the last couple years.”

Charles City’s Nathan Buss and a Comet relay steeped in state meet tradition looked to be headed to an unflattering end at Friday’s Class 3A District and Regional Co-Ed track and field meet.
Buss, however, like the rest of the Comet boys track and field team has done all season long, somehow discovered an extra gear in the final meters of the medley relay.
