MARION — Cedar Rapids Washington edged Cedar Falls, 141-137, for the MVC Valley Division girls’ track title Friday at Linn-Mar’s Armstrong Field. Dubuque Senior was third with 93 points.
Washington’s Maddy Halyard was named the athlete of the year. She won the 100- and 200-meter races.
The Warriors won seven races, highlighted by a 1-2 finish by Brooke Foreman and Dayna Diggs in the 400-meter hurdles.

Cedar Rapids Washington and Iowa City West captured Mississippi Valley Conference boys’ track divisional championships Friday.
Washington outscored Cedar Falls, 153-135 1/2, for the Valley Division crown at Waterloo. Linn-Mar was third with 106.
Lewi Manirumva of Washington was the athlete of the year. He won the 3,200-meter run in 9:32.47, then claimed the 1,600 in 4:26.63.
In the Mississippi Division competition at Dubuque, West scored 152 points to outscore Iowa City High by eight. Cedar Rapids Kennedy was third with 100.
Patrick Lewis of Cedar Rapids Xavier won the 100 and 200.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Chad Underwood and Jordan Ask have signed letters of intent to play men’s basketball at Mount Mercy College.
Underwood, a 6-foot-4 forward, was a two-time third-team all-state selection. He averaged 19 points and 7 rebounds per game.
Ask averaged 10.8 points and 4.3 assists per game.

CEDAR RAPIDS — A thundershower belted the northeast side of town Friday afternoon, causing a 95-minute stoppage at the MVC Mississippi Division girls’ track meet at Xavier High School.
It delayed the inevitable.
Iowa City West captured its seventh consecutive divisional crown, outscoring Iowa City High, 183-158. The Women of Troy have not been beaten in a scored meet since the 2005 state meet.
