Cedar Rapids Washington Junior Maggie Norman has been competing in gymnastics since she was 5 years old, and all that hard work and experience is paying off. Maggie won the all-around at the state meet this year. University of Northern Iowa’s Moza Fay was named the Western Wrestling Conference’s Wrestler of the Year. The honor capped a solid career for the Panthers, which ended with a sixth-place finish at 165 pounds and second-straight All-American performance at the NCAA Championships at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis in March. Fay, a former two-time state champion for Anamosa, finished his career with 119 victories.
The Panthers’ heavyweight Christian Brantley was third in the Freshman of the Year voting. Wyoming’s Joey LeBlanc received that award, while finishing runner-up to Fay for …

Charles City’s girls picked up five wins in singles and two more in doubles en route to a 7-2 win in girls tennis action Thursday.
Karly Holland started the winning for the Comet girls, picking up an 8-2 win over Adrienne Hoffmeisteir.
"Karly really mixed up her shots well," said Charles City coach Steve McGrew. "The girl was not quite as athletic. She (Karly) kept her on the run. That’s what you want to do against a girl that’s not as athletic."
