All right, let’s get this all straight:
The Cedar Rapids Xavier Invitational track meet is now girls only. Eight teams will compete: Xavier, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Benton Community, Dubuque Senior, Dubuque Wahlert, Linn-Mar, Waterloo East and Cedar Falls.
The Xavier and Waterloo East boys, originally tabbed to compete in the meet, now will be part of the John Ask Relays Friday at Kingston Stadium and Saturday at Xavier (starting at 3 p.m.)

CEDAR RAPIDS — Track? What’s track?
That was Ronnie Henderson, not so long ago.
Growing up through the Cedar Rapids elementary and middle-school ranks, Henderson was fast.
But he was a basketball kid. And a football kid.
“It used to be basketball first,” he said.
And now?
“Now track comes before everything,” he said.
Track? Yeah, track.
A junior at Cedar Rapids Washington, Henderson is coming off a spectacular state meet. He was the Class 4A runner-up in the 100- and 200-meter races and anchored the Warriors to the 800-meter relay title and third in the 400-meter relay.

2008 state finish — 7th in Class 4A, 30 points.
Key returners — Kyle Slaymaker, sr.
Outlook — A member of four relays that placed at state last year, Slaymaker will be depended on heavily. The Cougars were impressive at the MVC Indoor meet, which boosts optimism.
CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON
2008 state finish — 6th in Class 4A, 32.25 points.
Key returners — Ronnie Henderson, jr., Lewi Manirumva, sr., Keenan Davis, sr.
Outlook — This team has potential state-level scorers at most any turn. The Warriors will be strong in the sprint relays again …

DREW CLARK, sr., Marion — The Class 3A runner-up in the shot put and a fourth-place finisher in the discus. Won the shot at the Drake Relays.
KEVIN DIBBERN, sr., Iowa City High — The Class 4A 400-meter champion. Also finished fourth in the 200.
RONNIE HENDERSON, sr., Cedar Rapids Washington — The Class 4A runner-up in the 100- and 200-meter dashes last year. A member of the 800-meter relay champion and third-place finisher in the 400-meter relay.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Miss Iowa Basketball Amanda Zimmerman, who began her basketball career at Alburnett, returns to Eastern Iowa this weekend as the headliner for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association/Gatorade all-star basketball games.
The six-game series begins at 1:15 Saturday afternoon at the Hennessey Recreation Center on the Mount Mercy College campus.
Class 1A and 2A players will compete Saturday, 3A and 4A on Sunday.
The 1A-2A Select game is 2:45 Saturday; the 3A-4A Select game is 2:45 Sunday.
One hundred twenty-two players — all seniors — have been invited to compete.

Shortstop Kellen Sweeney of Cedar Rapids Jefferson has been named a first-teamer on Perfect Game USA’s Preseason Underclassmen all-American Baseball team.
According to a release from Perfect Game, Sweeney is one of 60 prep players across the country to receive the honor. He is the brother of Oakland Athletics outfielder Ryan Sweeney.

Shortstop Kellen Sweeney of Cedar Rapids Jefferson has been named a first-teamer on Perfect Game USA’s Preseason Underclassmen all-American Baseball team.
According to a release from Perfect Game, Sweeney is one of 60 prep players across the country to receive the honor. He is the brother of Oakland Athletics outfielder Ryan Sweeney.
