CEDAR RAPIDS — We’re a round into the Class 4A portion of the boys’ basketball postseason, and all six Metro schools are still playing. For that matter, so are both Iowa City schools.

Amry Shelby led Marion past Williamsburg, 65-55, in a Class 3A district final last night at Iowa City, scoring 32 points as the Indians improved to 19-4 and moved within a game of the state tournament.
Kasey Semler hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 points for the Indians, who outscored Williamsburg 22-10 in the deciding fourth quarter.
Ross Doehrmann led Williamsburg with 16 points.
Marion next plays Mount Pleasant in a substate game Monday night at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Contract talks broke down between the Arizona Cardinals and the representative for quarterback Kurt Warner, making the C.R. native a free agent, as of midnight Eastern time.
The Arizona Republic reported the Cardinals were offering a two-year deal worth $20 million. ESPN said Warner wants “top five quarterback” cash of between $14 and $16 million a season.

Iowa City- Amry Shelby scored 32 points and Kasey Semlar chipped in 22 as Marion defeated Williamsburg 65-55 in a district game at Iowa City West Thursday night.
In other district finals, IMS beat Central City 62-51. Jesse Ney had 22 points.
Benton Community beat CPU 51-42.

Belle Plaine Senior Drew Hinschberger won the class 1a 130 pound state wrestling championship. Hinschberger beat Seth Epling 9-4 for the title and finished the year with a 46-1 record. Drew became the 18th state champion at Belle Plaine and joined his dad and borther as a Champ.

As of Thursday night, every Metro boys’ basketball team was still kicking in the postseason. Marion played a 3A district final Thursday night against Williamsburg.
In Class 4A, all six Metro schools and both Iowa City’s schools have advanced into the substate semifinal round. That list will be pared starting Friday, considering there are some head-to-head matchups:

Thursday…It’s almost the end of the week, and that first round game is looming. The school must make Oh-So-Many decisions and plans in such a short amount of time. A State Tournament Bid is likely a logistics nightmare for a little tiny school…but I suspect it’s one they are secretly not all that sorry to have to deal with.

Wrestling fans in the state of Iowa, specifically in Cedar Rapids, have a perfect chance to show their appreciation to the NCAA. Officials announced Wednesday that Cedar Rapids was selected to host the NCAA Division III wrestling championships again in 2010, making it three straight years.
This year’s tournament is March 6-7 at the U.S. Cellular Center with Coe, Cornell and the Iowa Conference sharing the host duties.
