The Springville Orioles underwent a preventive quarantine Saturday night.
There was illness going around, and Coach Brian O’Donnell wanted his girls’ basketball players at home, isolated from the bug.
“We’re so close,” he said. “We’ve avoided illness so far. What’s one night out when you weigh it against a lifetime of memories?”
The Orioles already have provided scrapbook moments galore. They are defending Class 1A state champions. They have an opportunity to do so much more.

Here are a couple of miscellaneous items from Saturday night’s finals:
With Jake Ballweg’s win at 135, Waverly-Shell Rock clinched its second straight Class 3A team title. The Go-Hawks made a three-for-one win, joining 2A champion Ballard and Don Bosco, the 1A team champ as repeat winners. It’s the first time all three champions successfully defended their crowns in the same season since the Iowa High School Association went to three classes in 1969.

MARION — Anamosa was bound and determined to make Marion a one-dimensional girls’ basketball team.
One dimension was enough.
The third-ranked Indians took 26 shots behind the 3-point line, made 10 of them and held off the Raiders, 51-46, in a Class 3A regional semifinal last night at Marion High School.
“I love seeing a zone. It’s only the second one we’ve seen all year,” said Brittany Fish, who hit four first-half treys to help stake the Indians (22-1) to a seemingly comfortable lead.

DES MOINES – He was Center Point-Urbana’s first wrestling state finalist last year, and he’s Alburnett’s first wrestling state champion this year.
Christopher Halblom capped a perfect sophomore season with a 4-3 decision over Brandon Welter of Don Bosco in last night’s Class 1A 112-pound state championship match at sold out Wells Fargo Arena.
Halblom attended CP-U as a freshman, losing to Charles City’s Tanner Schmidt in the Class 2A 103-pound state final, but transferred to another Linn County school for “a couple of reasons I can’t really talk …
