DES MOINES — Call it a red-letter night for Decorah wrestling. OK, red and blue-letter night since those are the Vikings’ colors.
Two former Decorah standouts — Lee Fullhart and Bruce Kinseth — were among those inducted into the Iowa High School Wrestling Hall of Fame before last night’s championship round.
Fullhart was a three-time state champion for Decorah (1992-94), going on to win a national championship for the University of Iowa. Kinseth won a state title in 1975 and a national title for Iowa in 1979 when he pinned all five …

Cedar Rapids Kennedy did it all last night to snap a four-game slide. Now the ninth-ranked Cougars are one win away from a state tournament trip.
Kennedy scored inside and out and flustered Davenport West with an aggressive half-court trap and extended zone defense in a 56-40 win last night in a Class 4A girls’ basketball regional semifinal at Kennedy.
The Cougars square off with No. 10 Iowa City High on Tuesday night at Tipton in the regional final.

Jaime Printy scored a game-high 21 points to lead top-ranked Linn-Mar to a Class 4A regional semifinal victory over Clinton, 74-26, in girls’ basketball last night at Marion.
Kiah Stokes added 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for the Lions (22-0), who held Clinton to four points in the first half.
Sarah Wenzel led Clinton (3-20) with 12 points.

DES MOINES – Nick Moore anticipated the crowd’s reaction to Don Bosco’s Bart Reiter’s becoming the state’s 18th four-time state champion. So, while warming up for his title bout, he went to catch a glimpse.
“I saw everybody rise to their feet and cheer for him,” said Moore. “I want that. You keep pushing yourself to get what you want.”
Moore put himself in position for his own standing ovation by claiming his third state title with a tough 2-1 victory over Josiah South of Urbandale in the 152-pound final …

DES MOINES – It took 13 years, but West Delaware’s Nathan Vaske finally won the best-of-3 series with Clear Lake’s Tucker Weber.
The state finalists first met when they were five-years-old at a freestyle tournament, but after last night Vaske has the upper hand.
Vaske handled Weber, 7-2, in the 130-pound championship of the Class 2A state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in front of 15,439 spectators.
It’s a perfect time to win,” Vaske said. “It’s exciting.

Vaske took the mat with aggression, setting a high-tempo for the match.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Cedar Rapids Prairie in Class 2A, and Marion and Oelwein in Class 1A won regional team competitions Saturday and qualified for the girls’ state bowling tournament.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy qualified as an at-large team in Class 2A.
In individual competition, Brooke Post of Marion and Coty Lau qualified as regional champions in Class 1A. Melissa Noe of Marion was an at-large qualifier in 1A, and Elisa Layton of Cedar Rapids Kennedy qualified at-large in 2A.

MFL MarMac senior Taylor Reicks bracketed his prep wrestling career with a place in the Grand March. After placing sixth at 112 as a freshmen, Reicks made a return trip to Des Moines this year as a senior. He finished seventh at 140 of the Class 2A state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
“That was the goal coming in and stuff,” Reicks said. “I was shooting a little higher.”
