CEDAR RAPIDS – Tim Fisher dropped his shoulders, tilted his head back and exhaled before leaving the championship mat.
A mid-December injury almost prevented the Cedar Rapids Prairie senior from experiencing the relief that followed the last second ticking off the clock. Fisher overcame that setback and a ranked opponent to cement his spot in the state wrestling tournament.

Ali Browning scored 18 points and Shannon Donahue added 16 last night as Iowa City Regina opened tournament play with a 51-48 victory over Mid-Prairie in Iowa City.
Regina (18-4) led the Class 2A regional opener 28-19 at halftime, but Mid-Prairie battled back and tied the game early in the fourth quarter. The Regals took the lead down the stretch with 3-pointers from Kylee Homewood and Donahue.

MARSHALLTOWN — Cedar Rapids Washington could not have scripted a better beginning to the boys’ state swimming championships Saturday.
The ending, however, wasn’t the storybook scenario the Warriors were hoping would play out.
Washington, the state’s most decorated program and the defending state champion, fell short in its quest for a 28th state title, finishing fourth at the Community Y of Marshalltown. District tournament play begins Monday for the majority of the state’s Class 2A schools and handful of 1A teams. Most of the 1A field gets under way Thursday.
Class 2A District 8 is by far the most stacked of those on this side of the state. Top-ranked Solon (21-0) earned the No. 1 seed and hosts Alburnett (8-12) Monday. MARSHALLTOWN, IA – Led by one of the greatest swimmers in Iowa High School history, Jordan Huff, Dubuque Senior won their first state swim title on Saturday.
Huff became the first swimmer to ever win the 100 and 200 individual freestyle 3 straight years. He also anchored the final clinching 400 freestyle relay.
