Linn-Mar outscored Iowa City West 23-6 in the fourth quarter and pulled away for a 55-25 victory in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball game last night at West.
The Lions (21-0, 16-0 MVC), top-ranked in Class 4A, had three players in double figures — Jaime Printy with 18 points, Kiah Stokes with 11 and D.J. Norman, 10.
Maddie Sadecky hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for West (15-6, 10-6).
CENTER POINT-URBANA 52, INDEPENDENCE 42 — Brittany Brandt scored 17 points for Center Point-Urbana in a Wamac West Division victory at home.

Chad Underwood scored 29 points and Jarrod Uthoff added 20 points as Cedar Rapids Jefferson extended Cedar Rapids Prairie’s conference-game losing streak to 47 with a 74-70 victory last night at Prairie.
Jefferson (10-9, 6-8) trailed by four points at halftime but outscored Prairie 27-13 in the third quarter.
Scott Schebler scored a game-high 34 points and Mat Meyer added 25 points for Prairie (3-16, 0-14). Prairie made a season high 13 3-pointers with Meyer making six and Schebler five.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids Prairie Coach Blake Williams isn’t buying the criticism.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy Coach Brent Paulson said judgments should be withheld until after next week’s state tournament.
But their teams are favored in what could be considered a lackluster Class 3A district wrestling meet today at Cedar Rapids Washington. The field also has Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Linn-Mar, Marion and Vinton-Shellsburg. Action begins at noon.
Only 11 wrestlers are in The Predicament’s statewide rankings and five weights don’t have a ranked wrestler.

Jason Halverson isn’t particularly interested in his team’s record or ranking. He wants to see improvement, and he wants to see it now.
“I don’t want to sound negative, but I think we can be a lot better than we have been,” said Halverson, girls’ basketball coach at MFL MarMac.
“We have a veteran group, and I hope that now the postseason’s here, we have a sense of urgency. If we’re not ready to play, it could be an early exit.”

MARSHALLTOWN — In the world of Iowa high school swimming, Chris Cruise has done it all.
At Cedar Rapids Washington, he won an individual state title, a relay state title, swam on a state title team and coached a state championship.
Believed to be the only person in Iowa to accomplish all those things, he capped it last year when he coached his alma mater to its first state championship since 1997.

CEDAR RAPIDS —They didn’t achieve their first tie of the game until there were just 20.5 seconds left in regulation. Their first lead didn’t occur until 8 seconds into overtime.
But when all was said done, Cedar Rapids Kennedy continued to do what it’s done all season, and that’s win basketball games.

Talk about an opportunity lost.
Cedar Rapids Xavier, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Iowa City West entered the last night of the regular season a game behind Dubuque Wahlert in the MVC Mississippi Division standings.
They all lost Friday. So did Wahlert, in triple overtime to Dubuque Senior.
So Wahlert backs into the divisional title with an 11-5 record. Xavier, Kennedy, West and Iowa City High finish in a four-way tie for second, one game back.
Cedar Rapids Washington was the villain in this mix. The Warriors tripped City High, Xavier and Kennedy …

The Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball season ends tonight. The Valley Division race has been an afterthought for weeks, with Linn-Mar seemingly wrapping it up around Christmas. The Lions (20-0, 15-0) play for an unbeaten regular season tonight at Iowa City West.
As for the Mississippi Division race, Dubuque Wahlert (15-5, 11-4) can put it to rest with a win at Dubuque Senior (10-9, 6-9) — likely, but not a sure thing.
If the Rams pull the upset, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Xavier and Iowa City West all have an opportunity …
