Kiah Stokes and Jamie Printy posted double-doubles last night, and Linn-Mar cruised past Cedar Rapids Prairie, 77-32, in a girls’ basketball game at Linn-Mar.
Stokes’ double-double was fashioned with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Printy put hers together with 17 points and 11 assists as the top-ranked Lions improved to 19-0 overall and 14-0 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.
Stokes also blocked six shots.
Lindsey Leas scored 15 points for Prairie (5-14, 3-11 MVC).

Class 4A second-ranked Linn-Mar rolled up a 50-point first half and downed Cedar Rapids Prairie, 96-60, last night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys’ basketball game at Linn-Mar.
Nate Hutcheson led the Lions (16-1, 12-0) in scoring with 28 points, and Zach Bohannon chipped in with 15.
Scott Schebler led Prairie with 20 points, and Matt Meyer also scored in double figures with 17.

CEDAR RAPIDS — Washington and Jefferson have been playing basketball against one another for more than 50 years, and it’s doubtful even old-timers had never seen anything like this.
You’ve heard of 100-year floods? This may have been a 50-year run.

CEDAR RAPIDS – The most flattering words from Coe Coach John Oostendorp were about the atmosphere and the supportive crowd during his Kohawks’ home dual last night against Cornell.
That’s not necessarily a good sign. The fourth-ranked Kohawks squeaked out a 21-19 win over No. 15 Cornell in Iowa Conference wrestling action.
“It was probably exciting for the crowd but not what I was looking for,” Oostendorp said. “You need to see what you expect, and we didn’t tonight.”

CEDAR RAPIDS — This time, Renesa Smith-Taylor was on the receiving end.
Smith-Taylor gathered an inbounds pass under the basket and converted for the go-ahead basket with 23 seconds left as Cedar Rapids Washington edged Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 63-62, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball game last night at Jefferson High School.
It was Washington’s second straight one-point, last-second victory. The Warriors (11-7, overall, 9-5 MVC) beat Iowa City High, 49-48, Jan. 30.

Every two or three weeks, the Cedar Rapids Kennedy girls’ basketball team lets out a clunker.
The last one came last night at Cedar Rapids Xavier, a 51-32 loss that turns the MVC Mississippi Division race into a sprint to the finish.
Now, the advantage swings to Xavier (13-6, 10-4) and Dubuque Wahlert (13-5, 9-4). Xavier hosts its last two games against Cedar Rapids Washington and Iowa City High while Wahlert hosts two of three and will be favored in all of them.

Cedar Rapids Prairie and Iowa City West claimed Mississippi Valley Conference division titles this season. Iowa City West won its third straight division championship and eighth since 2001. The Trojans own nine total. Prairie won its sixth overall and first since 2006. The Hawks’ four other titles came between 1993 to 1998.
The top-ranked Trojans were heavy favorites to repeat and took care of business as expected, winning the Mississippi Division crown. West went 8-0 in the conference and is 25-2 overall.
