VAN HORNE — The Marion Indians have played three tremendous games in a row.
Well, make that 2 3/4 if you wish to nitpick.
Class 3A fourth-ranked Marion bolted to a 14-0 lead, built it to 28, then held off a hard late charge to defeat Benton Community, 65-53, in a Wamac Conference West Division girls’ basketball game last night at Benton Community High School.
The Indians (16-1 overall, 11-0 Wamac West) won their 28th straight league game and will be heavily favored in their final three divisional games of …

IOWA CITY — For Zach Bohannon, four is enough.
Four straight losses to Iowa City High, that is.
Linn-Mar lost three times to the state champion Little Hawks last season. In the 2006-07 season, Linn-Mar’s only setback on its road to a state title was against City High.

MARION — Amry Shelby took a one-step dribble, went airborne and popped in a short-range jumper. He came up with a steal at half-court, drove for a layup, was fouled and converted the three-point play.
Moments later he led a Marion Indians fast-break and went in for another layup, bringing the home crowd to its feet.
That outburst came in a two-minute span early the third quarter and started a 15-0 Marion run that, in the end, proved to be just enough.
The Indians broke open a tight game with …

Last year, Marion ended a 33-year Wamac Conference girls’ basketball title drought.
Now, the Indians can’t lose in the Wamac. But it will be difficult tonight.
Marion (15-1 overall, 10-0 Wamac West) travels to Benton Community (12-4, 8-3) for a game that begins around 7:30. The Indians have won 27 straight league games — two Wamac games in 2007, 15 in a row last season and 10 straight this year. If you count the four cross-over wins this season (for record-keeping purposes, I don’t), it’s a 31-game regular-season win streak vs. the …
