Not even Bob Fontana.
“If you’d have said before the season that we’d be 14-0 right now, I’d have said no way,” said Fontana, the boys’ basketball coach at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Believe it, Coach.

CEDAR RAPIDS — The first time around, they needed three sessions of overtime to get the job done. This time they simply needed the full 32 minutes of regulation.

MARION — The expectations are so high for the Iowa City West wrestling program that Saturday’s performance was meet with mixed reactions.
Sure, the Trojans won defended their Mississippi Valley Conference team title and placed all 14 wrestlers. Don’t forget the six champions of seven finalists. Somehow that all fell a little short of what they were expecting from themselves.
Class 3A second-ranked West was still impressive, tallying 266½ points to win its sixth straight conference tournament team title Saturday at Linn-Mar High School.

Below is a paraphrased report from former Marion state champion Aaron Conway who submitted updates from Maquoketa:

Big matches throughout the tournament. Western Dubuque’s Jim Gotto handled Zeb Light, who had beaten Gotto twice this year, in the 119-pound final. Mount Vernon had a champ at 125 when Eyasu Russell countered a late takedown attempt by Marion’s Austin Weisinger to break a 4-4 tie and win 6-4.
West Delaware’s Nathan Vaske won by fall over Maquoketa’s Tim O’Connell at 130. Vaske reached a big milestone, becaoming a four-time Wamac conference champ (I believe …
