You’re really not surprised by Marion’s loss to Dubuque Wahlert, are you? You had to see that coming. Even in its worst years, Wahlert is ornery at home (the Golden Eagles are 7-0 at home, 0-1 on the road this year), and this is one of the best Wahlert teams in recent memory. Marion is a fine team … and might be very good at the end of the season … but something still …

CEDAR RAPIDS – It all came to an electrifying end Friday night inside the Iowa City High gym. The Little Hawks watched their two-season, 24-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt after 44 minutes of basketball.
Not that it matters all that much. The Little Hawks have spent the past three seasons winning a lot of basketball games, and no one expects that to change anytime soon.

When Peg Hansen goes, so will Scott Mahmens.
“When I took this job, I told Peg that she’s my secretary until she decides to retire,” said Mahmens, athletics director at Linn-Mar High School. “And when she retires, I retire.”
Mahmens’ first AD job was at Delwood, a high school that no longer exists. There, he didn’t have a secretary.
Now that he does, he wonders how he ever made it without one.
