Iowa City West looked very good last night. They really took control and seized a lot of matches. There were the inevitable blowouts with Justin Koethe (140), Dylan Carew (145), Matt Behnami (215) and Jack Hathaway (103) building double-digit leads before getting falls, but the “toss-up” matches went in West’s favor.
Most notably, Garrett Hathaway vs. Stephen Blayer at 130 to start the meet. Blayer seemed in control getting in on almost every shot, scoring a pair of takedowns and a 4-2 lead in the second. Hathaway answered with escapes and …

I’m at the City vs. West meet. Should be a fun dual even though West should be a big favorite. Some possible good matches. We’re finishing up some exhibition matches right now. We’ll be starting at 130 pounds. By the way “BIG PROPS” to the ref who asked the cheerleaders to sit near the corner so myself and the ICPC’s Andy Hamilton could have a clear view of the action! I don’t have the maps and the thumbtacks like the folks at the Girls Union. But I do have a few minutes to kill, now that the kids are in bed.
So here’s a stab in the dark at how all 4A and Eastern Iowa 3A, 2A and 1A regional assignments will look. An asterisk denotes a first-round 4A bye.
