CEDAR RAPIDS – Jason McCormick is well versed in playing through pain, enduring his fair share of injuries throughout his prep career.
Jefferson’s multisport standout has had a different experience this winter from injury-plagued baseball, football and wrestling seasons the last few years. The senior is enjoying his healthiest season yet and hopes to become the school’s first state champion since 1998.

A knee injury to all-state guard Missy Miller will change the look of the Tipton High School girls’ basketball team, but the Tigers are determined not to let it destroy a promising season.
“We’ve already talked about it,” said first-year head coach Chad Rezac. “Yes, we’ll miss Missy a lot, and we’ll have to have some other girls expand their roles. But as far as our goals are concerned, nothing changes.”

The ultimate underdog, Austin Teel picked up a big pin of the much taller, much heavier Mac Mahmens to help Cedar Rapids Prairie to a 41-24 dual win over Linn-Mar last night at the Lions gym.

IOWA CITY — Iowa City West’s brutal schedule has had the Trojans facing some of the state’s and nation’s best wrestling teams. The only thing that might be more brutal is having is having to wrestle the battle-tested Trojans.
They taught that to their crosstown rival last night. Second-ranked West pounded Iowa City High, 63-12, in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual at West.
