CEDAR RAPIDS – Iowa City West’s postseason draw may have just taken a turn for the better last night.
Emma Krieger-Kittle scored 24 points, and Maddie Sadecky’s steal stifled Cedar Rapids Washington’s final breath in overtime as Class 4A 11th-ranked West prevailed, 63-62, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball game at Washington.
“It’s a huge win,” said West Coach B.J. Mayer. “It could catapult us and get us going. More importantly, it’s a marquee win that might help our pairings.”

LISBON – Dick Briggs and Brian Hall have been friends for about 20 years, but their relationship changed for an hour Saturday.
The wrestling coaches were foes for the first time, and Hall wasn’t necessarily a kind host to the man who gave him his first high school coaching job in the late 1980s.
Hall’s Lisbon squad beat Briggs and Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 34-28, at the Lisbon Dual Invitational. The Lions won the round-robin dual tournament with a 5-0 record.

Three players scored in double figures last night, and Springville stayed perfect this girls’ basketball season with a 38-28 victory over Cascade in Springville.
Carly Martin scored 12 points in the Tri-Rivers Conference victory.
Class 1A top-ranked Springville is 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league play. Cascade is 5-2 and 4-2.
MARION 64, WILLIAMSBURG 38 – Morgan Paige scored 25 points to lead Class 3A No. 2 Marion to a Wamac West Division win at Williamsburg.
Sam Rinehart posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Indians (6-0, 2-0 Wamac West).

Neftali Lopez scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds last night to lead Iowa City West to an 88-49 boys’ basketball non-conference victory at Fort Madison.Teaque Case added 14 points for the Trojans, who improved to 2-5 overall.
NORTH LINN 56, LISBON 46 – Trevor Pflughaupt scored 13 points for North Linn at Troy Mills.
Lisbon’s Matt Knake led all scorers with 22 points.
CASCADE 63, SPRINGVILLE 29 – Nate Trumm scored 22 points and Regan Takes added 20 for Cascade (5-3) in a Tri-Rivers Conference victory at Springville.

In a rescheduled dual, originally set for Dec. 18, Cedar Rapids Jefferson defeated Cedar Falls, 45-21, tonight (1/2).
In the premier match of the night, the J-Hawks’ Jason McCormick was just as successful as his team as a whole. McCormick, ranked fourth, defeated the Tigers’ third-ranked Aidan Brock, 8-2. According to Jefferson Coach Dick Briggs, McCormick scored a takedown between a pair of escapes in the second period after wrestling a scoreless first period.
